About Integrative Muscle Therapy

A unique approach to soft tissue massage, Integrative Muscle Therapy (IMT) can be an important adjunct to modern medical care. People of all ages and professions can feel the benefits of IMT….NOT just athletes. IMT is great for those looking for deeper work… be it an overstressed executive, a computer wizard, laborer, home gardener, sound engineer, a “weekend” warrior athlete and the like.

Who should see an Integrative Muscle Therapist?

*Athletes and Entertainers who want to increase performance enhancement and reduce the likelihood of injuries
*People in acute or chronic pain
*People being treated for injury rehabilitation
*People in high stress occupations
*Adults and children committed to their health and well-being
*People who have tried “everything” else without relief

What to expect:

Integrative Muscle Therapy consists of Therapeutic Myofascial Work combined with Flexibility Work.  Each session will be customized to suit individual needs. Although all primary and secondary areas of complaints will be addressed…to simplify an explanation of a “typical” bodywork session….the leg will be discussed.  If the leg was to be worked on….the site of injury would be assessed for nocioceptive and startle reflexes, limited range of motions, as well as specific muscle dysfunctions.  Then, abnormal reflexes would be down regulated, tight musculature would be massaged very deeply to break down any scar tissue, contraction exercises may be applied to help re-educate motor dysfunctions, flexibility work would be performed to realign muscle fibers and help improve range of motion, and Kinesio Taping or Emotional Release Techniques would be utilized at the end of a session if necessary. Sessions for athletes, as opposed to chiropractic or medical patients referred in, tend to be a bit more active….athletes may have to lunge, run sprints, perform exercises and stretch.

The Rehabilitation Protocol:

The overall general guidelines for those receiving Bodywork are as follows:

Generally speaking, FRESH INJURIES can take 4 to 6 weeks to heal and CHRONIC INJURIES can take 8 to 12 weeks to heal or sometimes greater than 6 months depending on age of injury, client’s age, health and self care, and their own personal commitment to healing….example – does the client seek additional healthcare from other types of health care providers (Chiropractors, Acupuncturists, Physical Therapists, etc.) and does the client follow through with home care exercises or stretches that may be provided.

At Elite Techniques Center for Integrative Therapies – When a client begins IMT therapy, it is recommended that they receive body work preferably 2 times a week for 1 to 2 weeks depending on the severity of their discomfort. This is most effective because it will allow the client to know how their body is adjusting to the changes and provides at least 2 to 3 days time for the soft tissue to heal between sessions.  As the client heals, determined by client feedback, muscle evaluation, assessment, and dedication to home care, treatment will be reduced accordingly.

* Some clients prefer the therapeutic benefits of Deep Massage or AOBT and make a personal choice to come in on a regular basis, consisting of 1 to 2 office visits per week.  **Regular Bodywork Maintenance Programs typically consist of 1 visit per 1 to 2 months or be seen “as needed”
